HI
TO ALL MY CLASSMATES:
I am happy to report that planning for our 50th Class
Reunion is coming along nicely. We are planning a grand
event in Northfield for June 14-17 2007, and hope all
of you will attend. There will be old friends, interesting
programs and nostalgia galore!
I am looking forward to seeing you there.

Hello
Fellow Classmates.....I have just returned from Carleton
after attending Commencement 2006. It was wonderful, so
full of hope for the future and respect for the Carleton
experience. The graduating students would make you all
so
pleased and proud. They are remarkable, as is our college.
Do plan to come to Reunion next June. It will be terrific
to be together again, and I know you will be pretty excited
about the place that was our "home" back there
in the fifties.
Larry and I are eager to see you all.

Hello
John...
It
was good to get the letter about the dates of the reunion
and this time I won't let anything get in the way of that.
For the 45th , I had been scheduled long in advance to
be supply priest at a church in Door County,WI and coudln't
switch with any of the other ones - it was really hard
not to be there with you all...But I will be at this one,
"God willing, and the creek don't rise", as
they say here in North Carolina - among other things they
say...We do love Western North Carolina - we've been here
for 10 years - and love the short winters and long springs,
among many other things...
I
look forward to hearing more as time goes on, and also
connecting with you and Torie and others. My Torie will
be 45 at the end of April and she and Henry have two boys,
George, 13, and Will, 11. They live in Richmond, VA, which
is only 6 hours driving time from here, so I see them
much more than when we lived in Illinois. To think of
50 years is
strange, because I honestly feel in my 30's most of the
time, and remember Carleton like it was yesterday - good
memories...
Greetings
to you and Torie, and the reunion committee...

John,
You may put my name and address on the web site.

It may be interesting that I live just a couple of houses
from the childhood home of Diane Chappell who was with
us at Carleton for at least a couple of years.

Thanks
for work on web-page, John---I retired last year as arch-geezer
of Shawnee Mission KS schools (KC suburbs) after 42 years
of teaching biology, AP biology, Environmental Problems,
World Futuristics, and theory of knowledge (intro philosophy),
and developing district 24-acre outdoor lab. Also ran
environmental science camps 18 years while living on 300
acre campsite. Thought I'd be able to get at things that
are falling apart around house, poetry, painting, etc.,
after I retired, but got caught up working for a friend
at minimum wage in the UMKC High School Science, Math,
and Technology program. One of best things about teaching,
besides the students, was we did have a few weeks in the
summer to travel around and go camping, and at least now
I can take off non-summer time, like our 2-weeks in Aug-Sept
in Peru this year, and Ellie wants to go to Olympics in
February. We've been to a couple of her '59 reunions,
but none of ours yet---I'll hope to at least get to the
50th. When we come through Northfield we always stop and
visit our ecology prof Paul Jensen and his wife Marie.
Our older daughter Andrea is Carleton '87, so if either
of us ever get to reunion, we'll have the same year. Dick

We
are traveling the first two weeks of December - cruise
from Costa Rica to Ft. Lauderdale through the Panama Canal
- an exciting prospect. The finale will be a two-day visit
with Mallie Russel Marshall in Palm City before we come
back to New York. I'm still working full time at Instinet
(INET on Nasdaq) and still enjoying it. New York is still
a vibrant, though somewhat sober place since 9/11. We
look forward to the reunion in June! Nancy

Hello
all, I am looking forward to the reunion and plan to be
there. I am still working full time at the University
of New Hamsphire..too many researcharch projects on tap,
but they have entailed some interesting travel as well:
New Zealand, Costa Rica, Singapore, Scotland, Denmark!
I guess. Plus I have to get the rest of my doctoral studentats
out the door before I can play! Mancusos, Robsons, Houghs
and the Beckers have had our own reunitons each year since
the last official one. One summer at Mancusos\' in Michigan,
one in Canada at Houghs\' cabin, one is at Bayfield, Wis,
where we have a place, and last summer in Chicago, enjoying
the Robsons native habitat! Sad news of late was classmate
and friend Gil Bonebrake\'s death from cancer in September.
I hope to see you all there! Mimi

. . . . you may post my info (email, address, etc) on
the website. 45 years is a long time ago, but maybe someone
remembers me - you never know. Ironically, we just finished
a wonderful trip thru the national parks on a Stanford
organized trip with Prof. Gary Ernst (geology) as lecturer.
He grad from Carleton in '53 and is married to Charlotte
(Pfau) - '56. SO - Carleton ties surface in many places.
Much fun to reminisce with them. (yes you can add that
to my news on the website, too) Thx again for your good
work. Lynn Callender

John
- voice from the waaaay past!
Got a nice handwritten card from Ann Willits Bailer inviting
me to the 45th reunion. Really appreciated her time to
contact me and wanted to reply. After 2 years at Carleton,
I graduated from U of Wis-Madison in 1957. Moved to California
Bay area in 1961 where I have lived since. I graduated
in music education and taught music in K-5 for some 15
years (now retired). I keep very involved in the arts
and arts education realm locally, as well as traveling
and being a grandparent. Although I enjoy reading the
Carleton alumni magazine and keeping up with the campus
and alumni, my real allegiance is to Wisconsin, and now
also to U of California - Berkeley from which my husband
graduated. (I am on the Board of Visitors for the School
of Music in Madison, and return there for the semi-annual
meetings). Congratulations on a great website and all
you are doing to put together a wonderful reunion. I will
look for the class picture with great interest to see
who of the "young" people I can identify. Please
forward this note to Ann with my thanks. Lynn Cullen Callender

Some
Thoughts About Our New Website
"Welcome,
classmates and friends, to the Carleton College Class
of 1957 website, Carleton57.com. Here, the following
will be available to you:
1)
all sorts of information about and ways to contact each
of you, in whatever way you want to share them;
2)
information about Class of '57 activities, especially
those leading up to our 45th reunion (dates for which
are Thursday, June 20, 2002 through Sunday, June 23, 2002)
and subsequently on to our 50th, (dates for which will
be in June, 2007) and;
3)
selected college events and issues, thought to be of interest
to grads such as us. (e.g., the history and present status
of the Class of '57 Lectureship which we established at
our 30th reunion)
At
any rate, PLEASE respond with comments and suggestions
to the Carleton57.com webmaster, Dan Wallace at dan@Carleton57.com
